I have had no problem remotely working from here for the entirety of my stay. I would thoroughly recommend anyone who can work remotely to come and stay here for an extended period. Training in the morning, working during the day and training at night lead to productive days!
Kombat is a magical place. After spending the past 3 months here, I don't think I am the same person that arrived. I was a complete beginner at boxing. I had hit the heavy bag in the gym (in retrospect, in horrendous form!) but had never had any proper training. Kombat has been the perfect place to learn how to box. 3 months later, after training 16 hours a week - morning and afternoon - I think I am starting to get the hang of it, but I still have a lot to learn.
The training schedule feels gruelling at the beginning (I have never exercised 3 hours a day every day before), but don't be discouraged. After a week or two, you will surprise yourself at how far you can push yourself. As long as you turn up and are willing to put the effort in, you will see your skills sharpen, your fitness improve and your mindset change about what you think is possible.
The training delivered is top notch. Joel is the main boxing trainer I worked with. He draws on his extensive experience as a professional fighter to teach you how to box. He's patient and can help you fix all the beginners' mistakes you make and make sure you are continually pushing yourself and improving. He also has a great sense of humour, which adds a nice vibe to the sessions. Cristiano knows everything there is to know about functional training and biomechanics. Barbara is an excellent yoga teacher with a unique style, if you need to stretch out your sore muscles (you will). Basically, if you want to get fitter/slimmer or become a better fighter, then you cannot go wrong here. There are experts everywhere you look.
The rest of the staff are friendly and welcoming. From the cleaners who keep your room and the gym immaculate to the cooks who serve up delicious, nutritious Thai food after a long day of training, to the gardeners who keep the camp tidy. The camp itself is beautiful - a small garden full of fruit trees and a lovely pool to relax in all surrounding the beast of a gym where all the action happens. It's about 20 minutes from Pattaya city, so its far enough to be quiet but close enough to be accessible. The rooms are simple but comfortable. I have had no problem remotely working from here for the entirety of my stay. I would thoroughly recommend anyone who can work remotely to come and stay here for an extended period. Training in the morning, working during the day and training at night lead to productive days!
I struggle to find anything negative to say about this place. I am gutted. I have to leave to be honest! If you want to get in peak physical condition (for me I have gone from 14% body fat to 8% plus gained 2.5KG of lean mass and probably the fittest I have ever been) and also learn boxing/muay thai/jui jitsu, then book yourself in at Kombat. I am sure this won't be my last stay here.
The last three years I’ve been working extremely hard, and because of that, I’ve also gained a ton of weight. So when I came out here, I wanted a different environment. I didn’t want to have to think about it: what I was going to eat, where I would have to stay every night. I just wanted an all-inclusive type of fitness routine. That’s how I found Kombat Group.
Michael, from California, LA, spent 11 weeks at Kombat Group Thailand and lost 20kg.
What was your goal when you first came to Kombat Group Thailand?
It was primarily weight loss and fitness. I think in the last three years I’ve been working extremely hard, and because of that, I’ve also gained a ton of weight. So when I came out here, I wanted a different environment. I didn’t want to have to think about it: what I was going to eat, where I would have to stay every night. I just wanted an all-inclusive type of fitness routine. That’s how I found Kombat Group.
In 11 weeks, I’ve lost approximately 20 kilograms.
What was the mental and physical process that you’ve been doing to achieve a goal that large?
There are several things. A lot of it was learning about my body; learning about how my body reacts to sugar, to carbs, to protein. It was nice because when I came to Kombat Group Thailand, they had all the resources available. They had all the training, the massages, the proteins and food laid out for you.
So it’s just a matter of whether you’re willing to take those resources and take advantage of them. I was very specific about my diet. I was very specific about how I trained. That included listening to the body to make sure I wasn’t over training to prevent injuries. I made sure I was taking protein at certain times of the day, making sure I was hydrated, making sure I wasn’t taking too much carbs or sugar throughout.
It’s been a long and grueling 11 weeks. I’m not going to lie. It was definitely not easy because I was training five to six hours a day for the first eight weeks. Then, for the last three weeks, I trained almost seven hours a day.
What kind of training were you doing?
I start at 9AM with Functional, which is basically like Crossfit. Then I have Boxing from 9AM to 10AM. In the evening, there’s another Functional from 4PM to 5PM and then either Boxing or Muay Thai from 5PM to 7PM. After I got used to those workouts, then I could incorporate more running. I’ve been doing interval training, running about an hour a day, either in the mornings or at the end of the day.
Do you mind telling us a little bit more about the meals?
It’s geared towards your goals. There are fighters here that are training for fights. There are people that are here for fitness and dieting. The meals for me usually consist of protein and vegetables. It really is a matter of how much you want to put into it; how much effort you want to put into it, especially with your diet. You can overload on carbs at night and not get the results you want. I don’t think just coming to Kombat Group is going to give you results. No one’s going to wake you up at 6AM; no one’s going to force you to eat only proteins and vegetables…
But all the resources will be there for you.
Accommodation wise, where were you staying here in the resort?
I was staying towards the pool. So I have air conditioning, which is a must for me, and I have a memory foam pillow. Accommodation is fantastic. They have different price ranges for other people. You could share one room with three fighters, which costs less or you could have your own room, Wi-Fi, private bathroom, strong air conditioning, a mini-fridge, hot water, etc.
What would you tell anyone who is hesitant about whether or not to come to Kombat Group?
It really depends on what your goals are. There are a lot of people that come here for just a week just to try it out. I think that’s also a great idea if you are hesitant. It’s for a week. If it’s something that you’re interested in, you should definitely just give it a week. Even a week goes by so fast and, for the most part, a lot of people end up extending their stay here.
For me it’s been a great experience with the staff, with the people I’ve met, with the friends and it’s been a great 11-week experience.
